Angels and Relics on display at The Evelyn Burrow Museum

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — A new photography exhibit at The Evelyn Burrow Museum features the work of Steve Kinney and Kathy Hagood. “Angels & Relics: From Florence Italy, to Florence, Alabama” will be on display in the Exhibit Hall of the Burrow Center for Fine and Performing Arts through the end of the year.

The photographers chose 60 of their favorite photographs “that celebrate exquisitely aged stone figures and vintage vehicles found and photographed primarily in the deep south, but also far beyond,” according to their blog angelsandrelics.blogspot.com.

Though they photograph similar subjects, the execution and finishing of their photographs vary enough to provide different perspectives and viewpoints. Hagood’s work in the exhibit focuses primarily on stone sculptures found in museums, parks and cemeteries. Kinney’s work also includes such monuments, as well as photos of rusting cars and industrial machinery.

“We enjoy giving a little more exposure to the beauty of bygone eras that might not be seen by as many viewers if not for our photographs,” their blog reads. “When something is made to last, it won’t forever, but for a time as it ages, it may become ever more lovely in different ways than the original designer could have foreseen.”

An architect and award-winning fine arts photographer, Kinney draws inspiration from a wide range of subjects. More of his work can be found at stevewkinneyphotography.com. Hagood is a veteran photographer and writer who paid her dues photographing weddings, events and portraits. She is currently focusing on inspirational photographic art. The Exhibit Hall at the Burrow Center For Fine and Performing Arts is open Monday through Saturday, during regular operating hours for Wallace State Community College. The Evelyn Burrow Museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact museum director Donny Wilson at 256.352.8457.
